Our Story

You may know us from the high-street, but with almost 70,000 employees, a presence in 20 countries, and a business portfolio which includes pensions, investments, corporate markets and insurance - as well as respected brands including Scottish Widows and Cheltenham & Gloucester - there's far more to us than just our network of high-street branches.

One of the biggest names in the sector, our activities are organised into three businesses:

UK Retail Banking and Mortgages which provides a full range of banking and financial services to some 16 million personal customers through over 2,000 branches across the UK, as well as telephone and internet banking services. This is where Cheltenham & Gloucester fits in as our specialist mortgage provider.

Insurance and Investments is home to Scottish Widows who deliver life assurance, pensions and investment products, through our branch network, independent financial advisers and directly via the telephone and the internet. Lloyds TSB General Insurance is also part of this business area. Currently number one in the home insurance market, we provide over five million customers with car, pet, home, travel, student and caravan insurance.

Wholesale and International Banking (W&IB) provides banking and related services for major UK and multinational corporates and financial institutions, and small and medium-sized UK businesses. We also provide asset finance, manage our activities in financial markets through our treasury function and provide banking and financial services overseas.

IT, Operations and Group Executive Functions (ITOGEF) underpin these three vibrant business areas providing support that includes areas such as HR, Finance and Risk together with IT and Operations. As you can imagine, all of these are critical in allowing the three business areas to deliver against Group Strategy.

We are without doubt, an extremely good business. Our focus over the coming years is on becoming a truly great business, and on developing high calibre graduates for senior management roles in key areas of our organisation.

Our story? It's one of recognition. Of winning prestigious industry awards, including 'Best Bank of the Year' for Corporate and Commercial Banking four years running, Best Pension Provider 2008 for Scottish Widows and the Mastercard Platinum Quality Award for exceptional performance in 2007.

It's about being a proud partner of events and initiatives that make a difference to peoples' lives and have a positive impact on the world around us - such as our support for the British Heart Foundation and our sponsorship of the London Olympics 2012.

All of this puts our people at the forefront of change, and on a truly inspiring career journey.
